Several media reported on 22 February 2019 that the Taliban movement waged attacks in Afghan provinces of Paktia and Balkh. Recently, it was also reported in several western media that Taliban agreed on a seven-day ‘violence reduction’ for signing a peace deal with the US.
Abdullah Hasrat, a spokesman for the Paktia governor said in a statement that the Taliban attacked a post in the Zazi Ariub district of the Paktia province though no casualties or financial losses were reported.
“The Taliban attacked the Zara district in Balkh last night and continued till late,” former Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor said.
The week-long ‘violence reduction’ began in Afghanistan at midnight on 22 February 2020. If it works, the week-long program will lead to a peace deal signing between the Taliban and the US on 29 February 2020.
Western media also reported that US officials had assured Afghan government on using lethal means against the Taliban if the group doesn’t comply with the violence reduction deal.
